The opening ceremony of the IPA 2008 project “Support to the Reform of Criminal Proceedings” held on Thursday, 22 September 2011 in Zagreb.
The project “Support to the Reform of Criminal Proceedings” worth 1.157.859,00 EUR is funded by the IPA 208 programme. The project is of great importance for Croatiain the framework of the EU accession process. Improvements in the judiciary, Ministry of Interior and other state bodies in the fight against crime are essential to establish Croatiaas an area of freedom, security and justice and thus fully implement the acquis.
The project is being implemented by the Foundation for International legal cooperation, IRZ,Germany, and the Agency for International legal cooperation, ACOJURIS, France, and will last 21 months. The overall objective of the project is to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of pre-trial criminal proceedings. The project purpose is to support courts, State Attorney’s Office and Ministry of Interior in the implementation of the new Criminal Procedures Act. The expected results of the project are strengthening the rule of law inCroatiathroughout enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of criminal proceedings inCroatia:
- Enhanced functions of courts in criminal proceedings
- Strengthened independence of public prosecutors
- Enhanced performance of public prosecutors
- Enhanced performance of the police in criminal investigation
